We are pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring the Six-Points Charity Challenge in May 2018.
What is the Six-Points Charity Challenge?
This challenge is definitely not for the faint-hearted! The route starts at the Ajuntament de Calvia, Spain, and travels to the four compass extremities of the island:
West – Saint Elm
North – Cap Formentor
East – Cala Ratjada
South – Ses Salines
There are also two vertical extremities:
The highest point – Puig Major
The lowest point – Paguera beach
The course is over 400 kilometres long, and riders will ascend more than 7500 metres, which is nearly the height of Mount Everest, over three days.
The first Six-Points Challenge took place in 2017 with 26 riders taking part. One fearless rider, Orlando Jiminez Bonila, completed the Six-Points in under a day (16 hours and 56 minutes). The 2018 event, which is taking place in May, is expected to attract over 50 riders.
The Six-Points Charity Cycling Challenge was established to raise funds for charities on Mallorca. The chosen charity for 2018 is ASDICA (Asociation de Personas con Discapacidad de Calvia).
Bryan Visser, the founder of the Six-Points, said:
“We are delighted to announce the date and the chosen charity for our second Six-Points Challenge in association with the Ajuntament de Calvia. Having witnessed first-hand the fantastic work ASDICA does to support their members, we are really pleased to be able to support them.”
ASDICA currently has a membership of over 140, and there are more than 30 young people aged between 13 to 35 who actively use their services.
Bryan Visser continues:
“The number of people Asdica help and the array of services they offer is limited by the funds that ASDICA has available, and we hope that through our fundraising and sponsorship efforts we will be able to raise a significant sum of money to support this incredibly important charity.”
President of Asdica Joan Venys said:
“We are delighted that the Calvia Six-Points Cycling Challenge will be supporting us. The funds that they will raise will make a huge difference to the people we help.”
This iconic cycling event will let you ride around Mallorca while raising money for charity. The Six-Points is an unsupported ride around the whole of the beautiful island of Mallorca, touching the four compass extremities of the island and also the highest and lowest points over three days!
The dates for 2018 have been agreed with the Ajuntament de Calvia, which is Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th May 2018.
There will be a pasta supper and briefing on the Thursday evening, 17th May, but it is not essential to attend. The minimum donation for the event is €60, but you can get your family and friends to sponsor you and raise even more money for charity.
If you are interested in participating in the event, you can read all about it on the Six-Points Challenge website. If you are getting ready for this event but are struggling with an injury, we have a great informational guide on plantar fasciitis pain relief.
