Spring into Fitness: How to Keep Your Fitness Goals

Winter is finally coming to end which means, in an ideal world, we should have been sticking with our New Year’s resolutions for a couple of months now. We often set ourselves goals which aren’t always achievable, or something happens which throws us off course. However, a new season can a chance to start afresh or even up your game. When spring arrives, the weather is usually warmer and the evenings are lighter which tends to give us a lot more motivation than during the winter.

Additionally, the spring also brings about numerous sporting events, such as marathons, so now is the right time to think about where you want your fitness to take you. So, if you want to push yourself further, we have taken a look at some ways you can stick to your fitness goals and go beyond this spring.

Bring Your Workout Outdoors

As we have said above, the weather is usually much warmer, so spring is the perfect time of year to take your workout outdoors. Exercising outside is also a fun way to liven up your routine; this is great if you have been going to the gym throughout the winter, so switch it up and head outside. For example, if you have been training on a treadmill, leave the confines of the sweaty gym behind and opt for an alternative, such as going for a run outside instead. If you like attending exercise classes, why not try and find an outdoor boot camp? You may be surprised what changing the scenery of your workout can do for your motivation.

Set Weekly Goals

Whether you are training for a marathon or are just trying to achieve a fitness goal, for example, it is important that you set yourself smaller goals. One of the best ways to do this is by setting yourself weekly or any type of short-term goals. Smaller goals are easier to sustain than larger ones, and you can feel great about achieving them each week!

Get Your Workout Done Early

We are all guilty of being too tired when we get back from work to even consider going the gym or working out, so why not get your workout out the way? If you wake up a little bit earlier, you can start your day by getting your blood pumping. However, there are many other benefits of working on your fitness including making you more productive and boosting your metabolism. As the mornings will be lighter, you can make the most of it by going for a morning jog or even a workout at home.

Take Photos

One of the best ways to keep yourself motivated is by taking progression photos. Whether you are trying to bulk up or looking to shift a pound or two, taking a photo each week allows you to track your progress. Although to begin with you may not notice your progress, after a couple of weeks, you’ll be able to make comparisons. So, don’t fret if you haven’t noticed a change as the pictures will tell you a lot different!

Rest if You Need To

When working towards a goal, you can often push yourself too hard. Doing this can cause you injury so it is important to rest often. If you have had a problem and are recovering, you should only do what you can and not push your body. For example, if you are going through knee injury recovery, you should consult your GP just to ensure that you aren’t damaging it any further.
